About Me

I’m TJ Nevis, I’m originally from Rochester, NY (North Greece) and I moved to Raleigh, NC (North Raleigh) in 2007 with my 2 cats, Owen and Taby.  I met my wife, Ashley, at work in 2009 and got married in 2012 (this is a 1 year anniversary post from my wife’s blog).  You should definitely check out Ashley’s blog, Rainstorms and Love Notes – it’s a lifestyle blog, also with a lot of great food recipes.  We recently adopted Riley into our family and she loves to go for car rides.  I own a web development/technology business, NevisTechnology.com, where I provide all the services needed for a website from DNS, hosting and consulting to WordPress sites, fully custom websites, contests, e-commerce sites and many more services.

I’ve had a wide variety of different jobs since the ripe age of 16.  My first job was at Delta Sonic, who, by the way, looks like they could use a new website.  I’ve sold Cutco knives, worked on the customer service line for Turbo Tax, manually set the prices on products at Kohl’s before they went all digital (just recently), had a blast at Ridgemont Animal Hospital, helping the Vet Tech’s and spending playtime with animals who boarded there.  When I moved to NC, I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, JetBlue, loading bags and prepping planes (for a short time), RegEd, where I had a few different roles and met Ashley, Ignite Social Media and now Owner & President of Nevis Technology LLC.

While I’ve had many different jobs, I’ve always had one passion, web development.  I can’t remember the exact age, but I got into programming when I was around 12 years old.  I’ve taken C++, Visual Basic 6 and .NET courses in high school and college, but ultimately I didn’t follow a traditional post high school path.  I went to MCC for a year, wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to focus on, went into the workforce full time, moved to NC and finished up my Associates degree part time.  It took me so long that way, I went from just moving to NC to purchasing a townhouse and meeting Ashley before I received my diploma.  I am not the type of person who likes to learn something just because I have to – like in college – but I am serious about continuously learning.  I buy eBooks regularly, I have 60+ Udemy courses – I’ve thought about teaching a course on Udemy – and I’m always researching new techniques, languages and frameworks.  Currently I use AngularJS, SCSS and PHP with Nginx and sometimes Apache (when working with WordPress sites).  I’ve been working on using NodeJS and PassportJS for authentication on a project.

Anyway, that’s a little bit about me.  Take a look at my Instagram photos on the right hand side, email me if you want to advertise on my site and I look forward to seeing what you all think!
